Generally, the work undertaken by the legal section can be categorized as follows:

Inspection & Licensing

As the regulatory body of the coffee industry, Coffee Board is mandated to license the various market players. The following licenses are issued by Coffee Board:

  • Pulping
  • Miller
  • Marketing Agent
  • Commercial
  • Grower
  • Warehouseman
  • Dealer

The Legal Section issues licenses to the traders in the coffee industry, as opposed to coffee growers. The traders comprise of the millers, marketing agents, warehousemen and dealers.

Prior to issuing a license, we conduct an inspection of the applicant as part of the prequalification procedure. We ensure they meet the necessary requirements

What is Coffee Acidity?

Coffee Acidity is the bright and dry taste that adds life to a coffee. Acidity is unmistakable in most Kenyan coffees. Perceived acidity in coffee does not necessarily correlate to the pH of a coffee, but is believed to be the result of the acids present.
